The 4th Industrial Revolution affects our modern societies in myriad ways, as new economic, social, political, and environmental challenges emerge through new means of production. Its impact is felt across all sectors and communities, but areas of innovation and Science parks are uniquely placed to ensure that its effect is sustainable for the economy and society as a whole.

The World Conference of the International Association of Science parks and areas of innovation (IASP) brought a couple of weeks ago together an international network to shine a spotlight on how innovation ecosystems like Science Parks and Areas of innovations can support their communities and regions as they move into the industry of the future. A global gathering of hundreds of delegates and speakers, leading government, business, academic, and innovation figures from 54 countries.

Linköping was well represented at the conference with three different Keynotes. Louise Lennersten, CEO at Interspectral presented how their solutions can be a part of the modern industry. Fredrik Larsson from Science Park Mjärdevi presented the open innovation initiative Global Impact Jam. And associated professor Luis Ribeiro from Linköping University presented his research under the headline: “Cyber-Physical Production Systems – The Opportunities and Challenges beyond the hype.”

The event offered new insights into how science parks and other areas of innovation can continue to lead their innovation communities (businesses, entrepreneurs, researchers, and technicians) as well as their cities and regions into a digital future.

With the participation of other corporates such as Engie and Naval Group, innovative SMEs and fast-growing startups supported by science parks and areas of innovation, innovation ecosystem managers explored the impact of the 4IR on people and society, as well as the new roles and relevance of parks, innovation districts, and areas of innovation.

After concluding the World Conference, it is time to look ahead to next year. The 37th World Conference IASP will take place from 6-9 October 2020 in Sevilla under the theme: “The human factor: People, communities and their innovation ecosystems.” Do you have any idées on how our community here in Science park Mjärdevi can contribute to share knowledge and continue developing our park, please contact any representative from Science park Mjärdevi. We happily discuss these kinds of matters.
