Wilma Oscarsson is studying her second year at the Bachelor’s Programme in Human Resources at Linköping University. Over the past month, she has been doing her internship at Linköping Science Park, working on onboarding routines and taking part in our day-to-day activities.
What have you been doing during your internship?
During my internship I have been supporting and assisting my supervisors with a variation of tasks, but my main focus has been to work with some parts of the onboarding process at the organisation. This includes creating and developing a requirement profile which led to a published job application. In addition to this I have reviewed the introduction plan and worked with improving it by creating a new template for future employment.
I have also gotten to participate as an assistant in events connected to the program Switch to Sweden, learning to see how it works from within. I have also got to attend conferences, lectures and workshops connected to subjects like AI, skills provision and how to attract and keep international talents.
What have you learned?
I have learned a lot about the variety of the HR profession, how diverse it is and how the tasks differ from day to day. Therefore, I have come to understand how important it is to work with future-orientation and sustainability.
Throughout my supervisor’s work with Switch to Sweden I have learned a lot about international talents and the difficulty that comes with arriving to Sweden from another country and the challenges they face with the Swedish labour market, which includes finding work or staying in the country after finishing an education.
What are your reflections after this month?
I feel like, after this month of interning at Linköping Science Park, I’ve learned a lot about the profession and it has made me confident about the choices I’ve made for my education and future.
By following my supervisor and following her work I’ve gotten to see how complex and important the HR work is. This also applies to her work with questions regarding competence and skills connected to sustainability development. I’ve really gotten insight into how this job is much more than meets the eye, there are so many areas and levels within the organisation that you usually don’t think about. HR is a really vital profession that handles so many parts of a company, such as focus on individual, group and organisation needs.
Any other thoughts or ideas?
I am thankful for the opportunity to get to work with my really talented supervisors, getting inspired by their enthusiasm and commitment for their work. I am also thankful for the chance to have been working in a Science Park. They have a complex concept with a broad aim. Before this I had no insight into what that meant and how the company operates – but now I do 🙂
