Hitachi Energy, one of the world’s leading companies in power transmission and energy infrastructure, joins Linköping Science Park’s startup platform IndX.

“We see great potential in collaborating with startups. A smaller player can often have deep specialist expertise in a particular area, enabling us to solve technical challenges more efficiently,” says Francisco Penayo, R&D Manager, within business unit Transformer at Hitachi Energy.

Hitachi Energy develops and delivers technology for power transmission, with solutions ranging from power stations to cities and industries. With the global green transition, the demand for the company’s products and services has increased significantly, and major investments are currently being made to meet market needs, expanding the workforce in Sweden from 4000 to 8000 employees, within a couple of years.

Digitalization and efficient production processes are key factors to executing this expansion, and strengthening collaborations with IndX-startups is one way to meet the demand.

Needs within operations and customer service

IndX is a collaborative platform where several globally leading industrial companies (Husqvarna Group, Toyota Material Handling Europe, Saab, SICK, Nira Dynamics, Väderstad, and now Hitachi Energy identify needs and collaborate with startups.

“We have tried various platforms, and IndX offers strong synergies and an ecosystem where collaboration has shown great results. We also look forward to doing pilot projects with other partners and testing new technologies with startups,” says Francisco.

Hitachi Energy is looking for startups that can contribute to improving and streamlining manufacturing processes.

“We want to find startups that can help us work smarter with data optimization, procurement processes, and logistics. In the future, improving customer service will also be a key focus area. Digitalization is key for us to manage our growth sustainably,” Francisco says.

Francisco shares a message with startups interested in applying to IndX:

“Be patient with us! We are a large organization, and processes can take time. But we are also a global player with enormous resources and a strong network, offering opportunities for the right startups to grow and develop with us.”

Through the partnership with IndX, Hitachi Energy hopes to drive innovation and strengthen its position as a leading player in electrification and industry.
