Opera

Opera Mini was created to solve the real problem of making the internet accessible to everyone, regardless of the device they owned or the network they were on. By successfully solving this problem, Opera Mini became the only viable browser choice for hundreds of millions of users around the world. The key to this success was the unique compression technology that, along with a lightweight client, made it possible to load any page on any device while consuming very little resources on the client. Of course, there is no magic – saving resources on the client means using them on servers. How many servers, you may ask? Enough to handle millions of open browser tabs at the same time. However, computing power alone is not enough – you need a group of highly skilled, highly motivated engineers that will tell the machines what to do, and how. That’s where you come in!

We are looking for a Site Reliability Engineer to join our Opera Mini Server Core team. We are a small and independent team of highly skilled engineers in which everyone’s contribution matters. Due to the small size of the team and the magnitude of the task at hand, we don’t have strict distinctions between the roles. We do have developers, system administrators and QAs, but everyone is free to make quality contributions to most parts of the system. In our daily work we develop the core services (i.e. infrastructure as software and services), create and improve our tools, upgrade services, debug issues, monitor the health of our systems, test all parts of our infrastructure and most importantly, have a lot of fun.

Are you the one we are looking for?

Are you a highly skilled, highly motivated IT engineer who can work independently? Are you able to understand complex software systems and their minute aspects by reading the source code rather than documentation? Do you enjoy learning and using new esoteric programming languages? Do you have a good knowledge of the Linux Operating System and computer networking? Do you like being given a lot of freedom but understand that it comes with great responsibility? Are you more proud of your contributions than your certificates and diplomas? Do you continuously look for ways to improve, both personally and professionally? If your answers to these questions are yes, then you might be exactly the type of person we are looking for.

Please attach a cover letter and your resume to apply now. We are looking forward to hearing from you.
