40 years of innovation – stories from Linköping Science Park
Johan Lyreborn serves as the co-founder and Chief Evangelist of Configura, a software company with global reach rooted in Linköping. Merging a background in music with technical expertise, Lyreborn embodies the creative potential found within Linköping Science Park.
The Configura story began with a childhood friendship between Lyreborn and Göran Rydqvist. After they enrolled in the Computer Engineering program at Linköping University, they recognized a need to simplify the design process for office furniture. This led to the launch of Configura in 1990. The company develops software that calculates and visualizes configurable products, supporting industries ranging from kitchen design to material handling systems.
Lyreborn approaches programming as artistry, with a goal to hide complexity behind user-friendly solutions. His leadership style reflects his experience as a drummer; he prioritizes the collective performance of the team over individual achievements, trusting employees to make decisions.
The collaborative environment of Linköping Science Park shaped the company’s trajectory. Lyreborn explains that early interactions with other local tech companies provided guidance and inspiration. He values the local culture where knowledge exchanges occur naturally between organizations.
Regarding the supportive nature of the regional ecosystem, Lyreborn states:
“Linköping Science Park is the perfect place if you want to surround yourself with people who want to realize things.”
