What the Master Thesis is about/background to the problem to investigate

A series of images are taken by a stereo camera mounted on a robot. The robot moves along a trajectory which is to some degree known.

The task is to reconstruct the 3D scene based on the series of images. This will give a richer description of the target where more hidden surfaces are exposed and where stereo reconstruction artifacts can be rejected. The final goal is to provide the means to locate objects at higher accuracy and more robustly than from just one image.

The master thesis work focuses on the following/example of research questions

Robot trajectories can be known to different degree, investigate how these affects the reconstruction result. Some examples:

  • Not known at all
  • Smooth motion
  • Trajectory known but not synched in time with the camera
  • Trajectory known and synched with camera
