UMS Skeldar, a multifaceted company, with capabilities in research, development, design, manufacturing, testing, training, consulting, maintenance and much more. We produce one of the world’s most advanced Unmanned Aerial Vehicle ́s, designed to support tactical operations for surveillance, emergency response, homeland security, and defence.
During the spring 2024, we are looking for two master thesis students (30hp) to study the possibility to introduce a health monitoring system in Skeldar V-200.
Helicopters are fascinating air vehicles, combining the ability to take-off and land in small spaces, hover in the air and fly forward at high speed while carrying a substantial load. However, helicopters have the disadvantage of creating vibrations, which can affect both sensors, structure, and performance. By implementing a health monitoring system (HMS) a remote pilot can be aware of any change in the environment in the helicopter during flight and can take action.
The aim of the Master thesis is to develop a concept and a prototype for a HMS, that can take input data from external sensors, process the data and send it to the remote pilot.
We believe that the work will include: signal processing, electronics design and coding.
Suggested steps in the master thesis are:
- Study of available HMS that can be used in UAVs.
- Conceptual design of tailorized HMS for Skeldar V-200.
- Prototyping of tailorized HMS for Skeldar V-200.
- Ground and flight tests for evaluation of prototype.
